The Belize Bureau of Standards announced on Monday that the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas or LPG was also going to increase. Starting yesterday, the retail price of LPG, known colloquially as "Butane", is currently being sold by the butane companies at 114 dollars for a 100-pound gas tank. The previous price was 108 dollars.
Jose Trejo, the Controller of Supplies at the Bureau of Standards, says that the monthly increase in February is due to an upward trend in the acquisition price. The US Gulf Coast Stocks, where Belize obtains its supplies, continue to dwindle in the face of strong and steady residential demand, especially for propane.
