And the ministry was also celebrating its largest shipment of cattle for this year. Over 1,300 animals are going legally across the northern border, which translates into millions of dollars of foreign exchange for the government. Today Minister Mai said that they're hoping to have similar milestones in the upcoming year.
Hon. Jose Mai - Minister of Agriculture
"Today, November 2021, we are sending out the largest shipment of cattle this week. 1,300+ of bovine are being exported this month of November. That will generate approximately 1.3 million dollars, that's a substantial foreign exchange coming out of the country. It is the largest in the entire year so far going to Mexico, the formal market. What this does for farmers is just really impressive. It provides income to farmers and their farming families and their employees, it provide valuable foreign exchange earnings for us and as 2022 is closing in on us, we hope to do this and more. We have the markets, we have the volumes, all we need to do is to put our efforts together to export."
