The Bureau of Standards, the government agency that looks after the country's welfare through its consumer protection standards, celebrated its 30th anniversary as an organization in Belize.

As viewers know, the Bureau provides oversight for standards in the efficiency and competitive production of goods and services produced domestically or imported. They conducted sampling, testing, calibration, inspection, and certification procedures. They also ensure that regulatory requirements, such as those related to the health and safety of consumers and the environment, are met.

The anniversary was celebrated this morning with a ceremony and a cake, and here's what the keynote speakers had to say about the important milestone:

Jose Trejo - Director, Bureau of Standards
"Our bureau is filled with excitement for this opportunity to welcome you all on this milestone occasion marking the 30th anniversary of the Belize Bureau of Standards. While our celebration today is institutional, I believe it is only fitting to start by reflecting on the men and women who have journeyed along with us. After all, what would our institutions be without the human element? Luke 12:48 says, 'To whom much is given, much will be required.' For a mandate as big as ours, much has been given, and indeed much has been required. To carry a 30-year mandate such as ours represents nothing more than hard work, dedication, commitment, and drive, not to mention talent and skills to arrive at this juncture. Perhaps an oxymoron: but while we have labored 30 years, our work has only just begun. We say it is to remind ourselves that our work is never done and that there is really no time for us to settle, having come this far. While it is easy to be caught up with the rigors of unfinished work, I believe we can afford ourselves on this occasion a moment to reflect on the significance of this historical event as we pay tribute to Bureau's remarkable development and impact since its inception in 1982."

Hon. Jose Mai - Minister of Agriculture, Food Security & Enterprise
"I am proud to share that the Bureau, through difficult and challenging times, remains attuned to the growing needs of modernization. Boasting state-of-the-art facilities, the Bureau has undergone significant growth and transformation and is now strengthened in its core mission to promote and support the competitiveness of goods and services, trade facilitation, and Consumer Protection."
