Belize Water Services requested an increase in your water rate - but t has been denied by the PUC. On May 3, 2022, BWS made a submission for an Annual Review Proceeding saying that they faced "Exceptional Circumstances" due to the financial effects caused by COVID-19. The Company claimed that rising prices for inputs and lower sales revenues had resulted in an acceleration of the Mean Water Rate (MWR), and asked the PUC for permission to add a fixed charge to non-residential customers.
Yesterday, the Commission made an Initial Decision, accepting the "Exceptional Circumstances" but told the company that instead of any fixed charge, it needs to grow its business and lower its cost structure. So, the Decision of the Commission is that the Tariffs, Fees and Charges levied by BWSL will remain unchanged for the period April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2025.
