A couple from Belize City is homeless tonight after their CET site home burned to the ground - but this was no accident - it was the culmination of an ugly domestic dispute.
It happened at about 9:15 last night after Devon Geban returned home from a day of playing dominoes. He says his now former partner Clarine Castillo was angry at him after she said he'd ignored her calls, and from there some type of altercation ensued.
Tonight we know that it ended in a fire but exactly how that fire started is still anyone's guess tonight. This afternoon we caught up with Geban who says he's the victim here and gave us a detailed report of his version of events.
Geban claims to be in possession of a video showing Castillo acting belligerently and hurling flaming toilet paper at him but as he hopes to enter the video into evidence. He has not shared it with the press.
And Belize City station supervisor Kenneth Mortis, says he's yet to see it either but this afternoon he shared what his team on the ground has been able to find about the CET site fire.
Geban says that the incident has left him homeless and without any documents with which to confirm his identity. anyone who'd like to reach out to him to offer assistance can reach him at 607-4211.
As we closed off our interview Geban reiterated that the public needs open its mind when it comes to domestic violence because he says quote: "It goes both ways."
We also reached out to Clarine Castillo for comment but she declined.
The couple had been together for 22 years and had raised Castillo's son.
Notable is that Geban's brother a police corporal was also involved in a serious car accident this morning.
