Belize Water Services Limited has made a submission to the Public Utilities Commission to trigger an Annual Tariff Review Proceeding.

In a press release sent today, the BWS stated that they were not currently requesting any changes in tariffs or fees. However, they want to bring a few details to the attention of the utility regulator. They think several factors have combined to create sufficient exceptional circumstances to trigger a review.

The country's primary water provider says the COVID-19 pandemic caused a significant revenue reduction over the last few years compared to the 2020 forecasts. While they are now seeing some return to normalcy with their revenues, there has been consistent and persistent increases in the cost of materials and services, impacting operational expenses and expenditures. BWS also states that they have an ongoing need to perform capital investments to expand services and capital expenditure with the PUC.
