Bottom Dolla has bottomed out after less than two decades - and accompanying every good closing, there's a good closeout sale.
We stopped by today not for the prices but to hear what the customers had to say. Jomarie Lanza reports
The shelves are almost empty at Bottom Dalla on North Front street. This is because after 18 years in business the Santiago Castillo Group has decided to close its doors due to what it calls "Unfair competition."
It's a tough decision on the owners' part, but the Bottom Dalla branch hasn't been doing too well in sales over the past few months. The owners believe that shutting down and focusing on its wholesale business is a more prudent financial course. But, of course, not without a blowout sale on all the remaining stock in the store. We spoke to two customers today during the final sale grabs, and asked them what they thought about Bottom Dalla's final bow.
Shopper
"I'm sorry because it's for my family."
Reporter
"It belongs to your family? So you shop here constantly?"
Shopper
"Well I used to come now and then but I'm hoping that maybe somebody else can do a better job with it."
Reporter
"Are you taking advantage of the deals that they are offering?"
Shopper
"I didn't really come to pick up anything as yet but I will."
Reporter
"You knew that it was going to close?"
Shopper
"Yes somebody told me yesterday, and I feel sad because I live right here on the next side and then i come and buy right here."
Reporter
"And are you taking advantage of the deals?"
Shopper
"Yes I will come back again to buy more because I see that it's good right now and sometimes you could think that it's expensive but no they have good deals right here that's why I come buy right here."
According to the Sales Manager, select items will be on sale for 50% off on Friday and Saturday. Bottom Dalla will officially close on August 31st - or as long as stock lasts.
Speaking of the San Was group's other two stores, People's Store in Orange Walk and Save-U in Belize City, family representative Santino Castillo told us that the retail sector is becoming increasingly hard to operate.
