Financial hardships is only one of many issues that has motivated the UDP to come together and hold a protest to coincide with their national convention. According to Peyrfitte they expect a sizable turnout on Sunday and he believes that people will come out and stand with the party.
Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Chairman
"We are set to have our national convention this Sunday. A few months ago the national party council voted to have the party leader, the first deputy, the second deputy, the chairman and the vice-chairman - the national party council voted for us to be endorsed at the national convention on Sunday in the sense of unity for the party going forward and stability going forward to the next general elections and so that is what will happen on Sunday. We expect our party faithful to come out."
"We are having a demonstration march from the headquarters to the Birds Isle and will use that opportunity to not just be in a celebratory mood to say look this is the UDP, we are ready and prepared to move forward, but at the same time we have a responsibility to enlighten the people as to the problems we are having in the country and so that is what is going to happen on Sunday."
"We are not stopping anybody from marching with us. We are not stopping anybody from voicing their opinion. So we'll be out there in full force and the more the merrier of course."
The protest will begin at 8:30 at the UDP headquarters, and ends at Bird's Isle with a rally and endorsement of leadership.
