Caribbean Organic Food Stuff - the sister company of the Caribbean International Brewery that makes Mine Beer - is embarking on their latest product - Belizean made flour.

Manna Flour is made right at their factory in Carmelita. The flour mill officially opened today and the PM headed right over after his flight landed in Belize. But before he left for Orange Walk, we asked him what this new mill means for the country.

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I think it's something great, I think it shows there's continued confidence in the Belizean economy and that here now we're opening a flour company. What I'm told that Belize Flour Mill imports the flour from Guyana and there's a company in the Orange Walk district that is bringing in the wheat and milling, grinding the wheat to be able to provide flour for Belizeans."

"Do you think we'll get to the point of exporting our flour?"

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"That's the plan, they're saying that's what they want to do, they want to be able to produce in large numbers. I have visited the plant maybe about two months ago and I was quite impressed. State of the art, and it's a huge operation that they have and so their aim is to be able to export the flour into the Caribbean market."

"I think what was happening, if I remember right, I don't have all the details but I think there was some issue with the bakers to bake. That's what I, if I could vaguely remember back then. But now that we have another company producing it and provided that the flour meets the standards, I'm told they are producing good flour. So maybe sooner than later we will stop the importation so you can either buy from the flour mill in Orange Walk or from what's being imported through CARICOM because it's being imported from Guyana."
