And a new approach is what the traditional media inBelize has been trying to work with for years. Television and radio stations have seen their revenues crash because advertisers can now advertise for free on social media. And even when they don pay to boost a post it has no GST.

X-TV's Mose Hyde discussed it yesterday in the context of Speednet and BTL's claim that a big international company named Starling is about to get into the Belize market. Speednet says this is what they need to be consolidated into BTL. But Hyde said only the specially entitled can get such a bailout:

Evan "Mose" Hyde, XTV/Krem Radio
"We have to siddung every day and watch money di get spent on google ads, Facebook ads, and none of them are paying GST. But when you come and buy ads from me I have to pay GST. Fundamentally that is unequal and unjust. I don't want to get worked up on it. My brother knows that it is one of my pet things that I hate because when the hotel people say that AIRBnB can't di exist and doesn't pay hotel tax, there was a response. When the media has a problem with the calamitous reality that technology is bringing to us even before AI, it isn't anyone that has a problem, it isn't nobody that has a problem. That our content is one of the main reasons why somebody will want any of these local streamers when they can just get Netflix, when they can just get firestick, but your news and the talk shows still have gravity and still has leverage, yes we will use it. But we don't want to hear any complaints, we don't want to hear your cries, that doesn't matter. I'm telling you today this meeting, this press thing here this is about us."
