And so while that San Pedro resort is facing a massive lawsuit in the US - they should not expect any cover from the BTB. Today the minister of tourism said let the chips fall where they may:
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"It shouldn't have happened and I say let the chips fall where they may. If that is the reality then that is the reality."
Reporter:
"We know that the lawsuit is being brought against both the resort ownership and Expedia the travel website, what effect will this legal action have on the tourism industry?"

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"Well I have not spoken to Expedia about that as yet, we had a meeting about the numbers and where we are looking at in terms of marketing and stuff like that. But we did not discuss this issue as yet but I will reach out to them."
"Any negative press that we get and I mean today's speed of how information is disseminated, creates hurdles for us. And so we have to take it in strides, we have to continue to be authentic in our approach in selling Belize in marketing Belize and doing PR for Belize. And so whenever that issue is out there then we have to deal with it appropriately."
"But to be honest if it was my family then I would have done the same thing. And so I can't fault the families: you come to Belize for vacation, not to die because of carbon monoxide poisoning. And that should not have happened, but it has happened, it has happened all over the world and I grieve with the families, I had sleepless nights just thinking about those 3 young ladies."
