Twenty seven year old Benyahti Brandon of La Democracia Village has been charged for the murder of his cousin, 21 year old Paul Smith Jr. and the attempted murder of 24 year old Tyrece Lewis Allen.

The charges stem from a Tuesday morning shooting in La Democracia Village in which Smith Jr. was fatally shot while Allen sustained a gunshot wound to the knee. Police say surveillance footage aided their investigation leading to Brandon's arrest. The motive - according to sources - was a long standing dispute.

Bail was denied, and Brandon is scheduled to return to the Belize City Magistrate's Court on May 18, 2026.
