As we told you last night, the 14 inch sewer main which carries the city's untreated sewage sits directly in the path of construction for the new Belcan Bridge.
And, the engineers who planned the bridge replacement project totally missed that in their design! 7News has seen correspondence which shows that from early March BWS gave the MIDH and the Ministry of Finance warnings about the pipe. And, the warnings also include the 1979 drawings of the route for the main. We note that the pipes have also been there - unchanged since 1979!
The utility is proposing a two-million-dollar relocation project... and wants the government to split the cost 50-50.
But the situation at the Swing Bridge is even tighter. BWS says a planned temporary crossing near Hyde's Lane sits directly on top of sewage and water mains. They say moving those lines is mandatory before any bridge work begins. Which is why the MIDH has purchased the entire San Cas Bottom Dalla property for 5 million dollars.
