It was supposed to be a simple search and arrest, but a Corozal resident was killed as a police operation went very wrong. Police tonight report that at around 11 and 12 on Tuesday afternoon they were in the halls layout area in Corozal town to arrest Francis Diego. They found a small quantity of cannabis on him, but as they were arresting Diego, his wife, Lavern Tzul, started to struggle with the police. As a result a police officer was stabbed with a knife and, in response police say they shot a fleeing Diego in both legs in response. He was transported to the Corozal hospital for treatment and was later taken to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival - ostensibly from those gunshot wounds to the legs. Police have launched an internal investigation into the matter while Diego lies at the morgue awaiting a post mortem.
