Residents of the Eastern end of East Canal adjoining Berkely Street have seen numerous shootouts, one murder and three young men tending gunshot wounds. Weary and frustrated, the neighborhood residents have no choice but to contend with the sound of gunshots almost daily. It's an area that seems to be in an all out gang warfare, so this morning when gunfire was heard, it came as no surprise. At about 8:30a.m. five gunshots were fired at Mark Medina of a Berkely Street address who at the time was walking through Martinez alley. Reports are that Medina was approached by Jonathan Faber who immediately opened fire. Luckily for Medina, all shots fired missed their target aborting what could have been another shot 'em up statistic. Police are investigating.
