Two Dutch Tourists made the headlines in December after fighting off armed attackers on the Xunantunich Road. The story of valiant resistance was neatly tied up when police were quick to arrest three Guatemalan Bandits responsible for the assault.
But all has fallen down tonight with news that two of the three
Guatemalans charged have escaped. Police were transporting Eldner Portillo, Jose Teul, and Anjel Mehia along with three other prisoners from Hattieville to Benque for an appearance in Magistrate's Court.
When the transport slowed for a speed bump in San Jose Succotz village, the three men made a daring escape attempt and ran for their freedom across the Mopan River. Police were in pursuit and fired off warning shots. Eldner Portillo was shot in his shoulder and captured. But Jose Teul and Anjel Mehia never looked back and it is believed both
Have since skipped across the border to Guatemala.
