Apart from Said Musa and Dean Barrow, accused quadruple murderers Leslie Pipersburgh and Patrick Robateau are probably the most talked about Belizeans, but for all those words spoken about them, they have spoken very little.
Today all that changed when the pair took the stand on the final day of the high profile trial. Keith. What did they say?
Keith Swift Reporting,
Leslie Pipersburgh told the court that on the night of June 18th 2002 he was already on his way to Corozal when the murders occurred. And even if he was in the city, he had no reason to rob Bowen and Bowen since he had worked there for 3 years and was making about $250 to $275 a week.
Then very important he said he wasn't friends with Patrick Robateau - since Patrick was a new employee and they didn't hang out.
Then it was Patrick Robeateau's turn. Notable is that he read off of a prepared statement. And the gist of it was that he never told Virgilio Requena he wanted to rob Bowen and Bowen. And secondly is that he never confessed to Ambassador Salvador Figueroa and Patrick went as far as to say the ambassador lied.
He ended saying he did not commit any of these crimes and he wanted to go the states to get a job. He folded back up his paper and sat down.
That was the defense's case and closing arguments are set for next Tuesday.
We will of course have full coverage of those closing arguments in Tuesday's newscast.
