The way the victim and witnesses tell it, he was like a madman terrorizing one Belize City neighborhood with an ice pick as he openly kidnapped his rape victim.
Well tonight that man accused of violently raping and cutting up one woman is in jail. 24-year-old Lauriano Ramirez was arraigned in Magistrate's court this morning for rape, aggravated burglary, and wounding. All those charges date back to a February 26th sexual assault. Allegedly Ramirez stormed the Port Loyola home of the victim. Neighbors who came to help were chased off by Lauriano who brandished an ice pick and then he took the victim to a secluded area where he raped and stabbed her in her and body with the ice pick.
Ramirez was on the run for weeks until last Tuesday March 16th when he unbelievably made an encore appearance at the victim's house. One of the victim's neighbors recognized him and again Ramirez then chased this neighbor with a machete. When he appeared in court today, an additional count of aggravated assault was added for chasing that neighbor - once with the ice pick and the second occasion with the machete.
Lauriano who is a Honduran national was denied bail in court and will sit in jail until next court appearance on April 22nd. The victim appeared in court this morning thanking presiding Magistrate Herbert Lord for remanding her alleged assailant.
