It's the sign of a key academic linkage with Guatemala as the University of Belize in collaboration with San Carlos University in Guatemala today launched a conflict prevention conference.
Prime Minister Said Musa spoke at the opening at the UB campus in Belmopan and discussed the significance.
Hon. Said Musa, Prime Minister
"Today as we have heard, the Belize Center for Human Rights Study, is a welcome addition to the campus and the curriculum at the University of Belize. This center will bring together academics, professionals, students, and members of the community in a forum for open dialog on human rights not only in Belize but also in the region and in the world. It should promote a better understanding of the historical and political context in which human rights are treated and create a greater awareness of our individual roles in the protection and promotion of the rights of others."
Tomorrow the conference moves to Belize city for working sessions.
