On Friday we told you the story of a man who tried to rape a 23-year-old woman in front of her three children - and when he couldn't, he struck her in the head with the claw of a hammer.
Today police took 27 year old George Waite, also known as "piece a 'ayes'", before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord where he was read charges of attempted murder, robbery, use of deadly means of harm dangerous harm and attempted rape. No plea was taken as the offences are indictable. The prosecutor objected to bail after which Waite was remanded into custody until April 29th.
This will be Waite's second punishment because on the scene he was beaten by a group of laborers who caught him in some bushes. According to our records George Waite has been accused of rape before.
