In June 2nd of last year, Lorei Wagner was shot to death, allegedly by a gun, which her boyfriend Roger Lewis was playing with.

It provoked the ire of women's rights groups when at first Lewis was not charged with her death. Instead he was arrested, charged and convicted of keeping the unlicensed firearm that killed Wagner. Six months after the killing he was charged with murder.

Today that case came to an end after a jury of 9 women and 3 men acquitted him. After deliberating for three hours and fifteen minutes the jury came out with a not guilty verdict on the counts of manslaughter and murder.

In an unsworn statement from the dock, Lewis recounted the events of the night saying that Wagner was shot accidentally as she rushed him to take the gun away after he had first taken it from her. He was the only witness and after capping his statement with a passionate elegy to his dead girlfriend, the jury agreed and he left court a free men having already served six months for the illegal firearm.
