The Belize Technical College, it's been subsumed by the UB monolith but the institution still casts a long shadow over Belize's professional ranks and society's movers and shakers.
Now, the graduating classes from Technical's 48-year history, spanning from 1952 to 2000 are being called together for a comprehensive reunion. The event won't be held until May of 2005. One of the organizers is Adele Ramos who was in the class of 1991 and she told us why Technical still matters.
Adele Ramos, Technical College Alumni
"We are a group of past students of the Belize Technical College and its predecessors The Technical High School who had an idea to bring together all the teachers and students who have ever walked through the door of Technical High and Technical College. The idea right now is to have the reunion in the last week of May which would be the 25th to the 30th but that's just a tentative date. If you look in this week's issue of the Amandala, on page 30 there is a questionnaire we are asking people to fill out. That questionnaire will give us an idea of who is interested, whether they agree with the date or not, their suggestions, and also give us an idea of where these people are, what they are doing so we could start to build a database and get the ball rolling for the reunion in 2005."
If you are interested in the reunion you can email Harry Usher.
