Last night we reported that 13-year-old Lewis Hamilton was recovering from stab wounds he received in an attack with a broken pint bottle on Wednesday. Today police charged both 16-year-old Devona Pascascio and her 14 year old brother
Calvin Palma with attempted murder.
The two minors were arraigned in Family Court this afternoon and remanded to the Hattieville Prison. That raised the wrath of their mother Gilda Jones who visited our studios this afternoon frantic because her daughter will be spending the night in jail. Jones admits her children were at the scene of the stabbing but maintains that they didn't pull the bottle. Jones says it was provoked and an act of self-defense.
Keith Swift,
The story is that the victim was attacked because he looked at your son or daughter the wrong way?
Gilda Jones,
"A lie. A total lie. You can go by the place and you can question my daughter right now. This fight was between a lot of them and any one of them could have stabbed him."
Keith Swift,
You seem to be more concerned about your daughter going to jail?
Gilda Jones,
"Yes I worry about two of them but I don't want my daughter to go there non at all. I am just begging for them to try pick up everybody and do the right thing to let them investigate. Don't pick up two persons and just charge. That is unfair. I don't see it as fair."
We note that while a new law mandates no bail for attempted murder, that only applies to arm assaults and a pint bottle doesn't qualify.
Gilda Jones was in the news in May when her other son Jermaine Pascascio, who is facing murder charges, was stabbed while in custody at the Queen Street police station. No one has been charged in that incident.
