Police are not sure whether the death of a homeless man was the result of a blow to the head or an unfortunate accident. On Saturday evening, police were called out to Newtown Barracks where they visited the abandoned third floor of the building that houses Eden Night Club. There they found the decomposing body of a man later identified as George Athelston Wright. While police are speculating that Wright could have injured his head when he was climbing into the area, because it is inaccessible by stairs. But his family is not excluding the possibility of murder.

Edith Mary Wright - Daughter

“On Saturday evening I called my son to pick me up from the hairdresser and that was when I learnt about the death of my father, that they found him dead, when he told me that my father was found dead on the third floor of Eden Nightclub. They are speculating that it’s murder because a large chop wound was found at the back of his head.
Q: “When last did you see him?”
“On the 11th of September that was last week Saturday. All his friends are saying that the last time they saw him was on a bicycle on Wednesday.
Q: “Was he homeless?”
“No he was not homeless because he had relatives and friends but he just choose to live that life. Because he could have come here anytime he wanted. He could have stayed here with me and everything but he just choose to be out there.”
“I always talked to him and advised him and tell him it’s very dangerous. I even suggest to him to go back to the States. To go back with his kids because he has other children in the States and they condition that they are living in I said: Daddy you need to go back home and be with your kids.”

Wright had last been seen on Wednesday. A post mortem was conducted on site and he was buried on Sunday immediately after it.
