Just about when the flag is being raised for the 23rd. time in Belize City tonight, a group of 40 high school runners from San Jose Succotz will be arriving at the Belize Guatemala border. The torch run is an annual tradition meant to show devotion to god and country. 7 news was there as the students took off from Nazarene high on Princess Margaret Drive for the over 70-mile run.
Armando Guzman – Runner
“We’ll be leaving from here in Belize City and we will be going all the way to Benque and Succotz and with the flag. And I’m glad for my fellow colleagues who will be running also. And I thank God for giving us the strength so that we can run and reach our destination and I ask all the other fellow people in the world to join us next year because we will be back. We are all doing this because the light is to represent Jesus Christ because he brought us here and I would ask everyone to please come with us next year.”
Q: “Do you think you will be able to make it.”
“I wish God will give me the strength I can reach.”
Victor Maldonado – Runner
“With the help of God I can make it. Well I am feeling great and strong so that we can. I just feel good.”
Supervisor
“We have to be reaching normally around 11:30 to 12 midnight”
