A screwdriver is no match for a machete, that was proven this morning when a man attempted to rob a tortilla factory.

Thomas Cal, manager of the Tortilleria Maya at the corner of West Canal and Water Lane reported to police that at around 4:10 this morning a man armed with a 8 inch screwdriver entered the factory and attempted to rob him. Quick as a samurai, he pulled out a Collins from behind the counter and struck the robber, identified as Wayne Castillo, thrice; once to the jaw, once to the head and once to the right hand. Castillo was then detained until the police were called in.

The 27-year-old Castillo today appeared before Magistrate Margaret Gabb-Mckenzie where he was charged for attempted robbery. He pleaded not guilty, was denied bail and was remanded until November 22 of this year.

If we're not mistaken, in 1999, the same Tortilleria Maya was the scene of another thwarted robbery, where the counter attendant cracked the would be robber's wrist with a monkey wrench when he went for the cash drawer. The thief was so badly injured he left behind his.25 calibre pistol.
