This was the image when he received the Commandant's prize when he passed out in 2002 and today, not even two years later, Police Constable Euwin Arnold was buried in Hattieville with full police honors. The coffin was taken out of the church by fellow officers, and that was followed by a formation of senior command, flanked by a massive number of police men and women. They went to the cemetery where the Belize flag was folded and the Commissioner handed it over to the 27 year old's weeping wife. This was followed by a 21 gun salute.
And while that was the scene in Hattieville, in Belize city at the Crimes Investigation Branch, things have speeded up. As we have reported the 27 year old Constable was murdered on Friday night as he was walking to work when a long gunman walked up to him and shot him in the head for no known reason. Tonight, 7NEWS has received credible reports that police are closing in on the killer. Unofficial information from police sources tells us that the prime suspect is a teenaged minor, who is believed to have gone north across the border to Mexico. With that, local authorities have contacted their Mexican counterparts for assistance in tracking him down. Our sources say police have presently detained another young man who they believe was with the main suspect when he pulled the trigger. Presently the focus of the investigation may be shifting, as the shooting, we are now told, may have been motivated by revenge. That is the young suspect had a rough encounter earlier in the night with police.
