Claiming that you were sick may well be the best excuse for not showing up for a court date, or showing up late. That was the case today when a man was excused because his illness was not only real but almost bizarre. 47-year-old Michael Grant appeared in court on charges of aggravated assault but he was late. Limping into the courtroom he claimed that he was unable to come any earlier because he had an infection in one of his legs. When he was questioned about the injury, Grant told the court that he was playing around with his girlfriend and had his legs wrapped around her. In this playful mood Grant says his girlfriend bit him causing his leg to become severely infected leaving him almost unable to walk. If it seems strange to you it also seemed strange to the prosecutor who questioned Grant about the attack asking if it was not a dog that bit him. He said no, it was his girlfriend and showed the court the injury that became infected a few days later, forcing him to seek medical attention. With that, his case was further adjourned and he was excused.
