Two children were injured, and many more could have lost their lives on Saturday when what are believed to be cross border bandits shot up a bus on the Bullet Tree Road.
At 9:00 on Saturday morning, Luis Cruz was driving an Ortega bus from Santa Familia towards Bullet Tree village when he saw three Hispanic man standing on the right shoulder of the road, wearing masks and brandishing firearms. Cruz, who was the driver in a bus that had been jacked at almost the same spot on November the 8th, decided to speed past the bus. The gunmen opened fire and shot the bus at least 6 times, smashing the windshield. Two children who were inside received minor injury. 11-year-old Orish Olivera was shot to the right ankle while 7-year-old Ixian Perez was cut in the face by broken glass. Police say they have suspects, but believe they will have to turn to their Guatemalan counterparts for assistance. No one has been arrested for the November 8th bus jacking.
