A Ladyville woman was hospitalized for 4 days after her common law husband severely beat her on Saturday. Yvonne Austin told police that she went to visit her common law husband at his house on Benbow Street in Belize City on Saturday when they started to quarrel. Austin says that at this point her common law, John Hyde, grabbed her head and slammed it against the wall several times rendering her unconscious. She said she was out for about a half hour and when she finally woke up he continued to beat her on her back, this time using a machete. The injuries she sustained were so severe that she was hospitalized from Saturday until Wednesday when she was released after being treated for head trauma, fractured skull and other injures to her head and body.
Hyde has since been arrested and taken to magistrate's court where he was charged with attempted murder and dangerous harm and remanded without bail until January 5th of next year.
