He is charged for brazenly gunning down an off-duty police constable in downtown Belize City on Christmas eve and today accused murderer Chadwick Debride was marched to court under heavy police guard for his arraignment.
The 22-year-old Raccoon street extension resident was charged for Friday morning's slaying of PC Nedi Reymundo in front of Dale's Barbershop on East Canal. Police today arrested Debride after receiving tips on their 911 and 922 hotlines. And while they have made an arrest, police say they are still looking for a motive.
Insp. Oscar Puga, CIB
"We received several information through the 911 and the 922 line whereby every information was acted upon and eventually we got information leading to the detention of Debride."
Keith Swift,
Are you investigating the possibility that this was a case of mistaken identity?
Insp. Oscar Puga,
"Well at this point, like I said, we have to look at every angle and that is one of the possibilities however we have not come to a definite motive but we are working on that."
Debride appeared in Magistrate's Court this morning and was remanded without bail to the Hattieville prison until January 27th. And though they received tips which led to this arrest on their 922 and 911 hotlines, police investigator Oscar Puga today told us they are also receiving threats.
Insp. Oscar Puga,
"I must mention that over the past 24 hours and even more the 911 line operators have been receiving several anonymous calls forwarding several threatening words towards the police and not at anyone in specific. The thing is and I must mention to the public that these lines are not to be taken for granted and in the situation whereby calls can be tracked down, these persons will be dealt with to the full extent of the law."
The accused murderer in this case has no previous convictions but last year Chadwick Debride was charged for a robbery at the Radisson Hotel. That case however never made it to trial as witnesses never testified.
