Arson or Accident?

Was it arson that led to the death of 24-year-old Mauricio Rodriguez who perished as his San Pedro home burnt on New Year's Eve? Well police say it could be. A post mortem examination was conducted on Rodriguez's body on Tuesday where a medical officer certified cause of death as asphyxia due to smoke inhalation. According to the doctor however, the body also contained signs of bruises not consistent with the fire. Police have reopened their investigations and are now looking at the possibility of foul play. Fire officials have not yet determined the exact cause of the fire and investigations into that are continuing.
