For sufficiently brazen chain and purse-snatchers, tourists are typically thought of as easy prey. But one thief found out very differently yesterday when he tried to jack an American woman. At around 2 yesterday afternoon American tourist Lynda Kay Van-Ommeren was walking on Bishop Street toward Regent street when a man riding a bicycle approached her, pulled out a knife and asked for her money. Instead of giving him what he asked, she took cigarette she was smoking and burnt the would-be robber twice on the left cheek. A passerby who noticed the altercation between the robber and victim quickly came to the tourist's aid and the twice-burnt robber ran off. Police are now looking for the criminal who goes by the quite telling identification of having two cigarette burns to the left cheek. As for Van-Ommeren, she's moving on. The tourist is happily continuing with her vacation and today left for one of the islands.
