A career dentist and Chief of Medical Staff at the Corozal Town hospital survived a vicious attack from a crazed robber inside her home Monday afternoon. 47-year-old Dr. Glenda Major says that she went to her home in the south end area of Corozal, which is an isolated area outside the town, for lunch. Inside, the doctor was attacked by the assailant who stabbed her with an ice pick and to her forehead, left and right side of head, right ear, and right arm. He then struck her over the head with what is believed to be a garden hoe. Luckily she survived only barely as a massive cut wound is in the middle of her head, she has problems hearing, and is understandably still traumatized.

Today, wishing to keep her face off camera, she recounted to Keith Swift the vicious attack.

Dr. Glenda Major, Robbery Victim
"I went home after 12 and when I got inside and I saw the doors open and the windows were open then I screamed. I thought somebody was in my house and when I screamed somebody came out the room and told me to lie on the floor and I lied on the floor. I don't know what he wanted to do."

Keith Swift,
What do you remember happened next?

Dr. Glenda Major,
"I don't know if I was hit but I probably tried to get up and he said stay on the floor. I think he threatened me. I am not sure but I think he threatened me because I saw him."

Keith Swift,
So it's when you went into your house and saw the door open and window broke you screamed and that's when he came out?

Dr. Glenda Major,
"He came out of a room. I think he was in one of the rooms and when I screamed he came out. I was screaming so people could hear me and he came out and told me to go on the floor. I don't know who he was."

Keith Swift,
How unfortunate do you feel that this attack happened when you were alone rather than when you were with your daughter?

Dr. Glenda Major,
"Oh yes I feel fortunate that I was alone and not my daughter because she is small. But it shouldn't have happened with me either. Its my house, I don't expect somebody to be there."

Police say the assailant stole Dr. Major's cell phone and US$400 in cash, which she had in her purse. Corozal police have two suspects detained, and are confident that they will make an arrest. Dr. Major has been the Chief of Staff at the Corozal Town hospital since 2003 and has been a practicing dentist since 1989.
