Belmopan Police today charged two youths for last Saturday morning's brutal machete slaughter of David Aguilar. The accused are 19-year-old Efrain Santiago and 21-year-old Noe Alberto Cruz. Police now say the motive for the murder was robbery. Investigators say the men were drinking in the bar when Aguilar flashed what they thought was a small gun. The men later followed Aguilar to rob him of the gun. He had no gun and after attacking him with the machete, they made off with his watch and chain. But the motive is neither here nor there for his widow Lydia Vasquez. With the help of a translator she told us the worst part is that Aguilar was killed by his friends.
Lydia Vasquez, Victim's Widow
[Translation] "He was going home and they lay waited him and they chopped him with a machete. They didn't have problems with him. They were great friends. I thought it someone else who was his enemy but it was not the enemy. Earlier the same guy who had killed him, came by and watched him on the ground and he was the same one who had done it. They took him to the hospital and I was expecting him to recuperate because he was already sitting down and eating. But the day before yesterday 4:30 his condition deteriorated and he died."

The accused killers, including Noe Alberto Cruz, seen here, will be arraigned in the Belmopan Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
