Marlon Fisher came within a hair of death when he was shot in the chest, arm and leg three weeks ago and tonight he is again fighting for his life at the KHMH after being shot last night. Last night Fisher and a companion were on Baghdad Street when two men approached. One of them then pulled out a gun and fired at Fisher leaving him with a bullet wound to the back. 7NEWS arrived on the scene at the same time at the police, and Alfonso Noble has been following up on the case of this young man, caught up in a deadly 2005.

Alfonso Noble Reporting,
25-year-old Marlon Fisher is once again at the KHMH's Intensive Care Unit recovering after undergoing a 3 hour surgery last night. Fisher was on Baghdad Street sometime around 8:30 last night when a gunman approached him and shot him once in his back. All police could do at the time was cordon off the area and collect any evidence left behind. And as they did so fisher was taken to the KHMH where Chief of the Medical Staff at the hospital Dr Fernando Cuellar was the first to attend to him.

Dr. Fernando Cuellar,
"He was once again the victim of a gunshot injury which initially seemed to be too one to the chest one to the neck however during the course of treatment surgery it was found that it was once single gunshot which entered the chest and exited the neck area. The entry wound was identified at the back just under the shoulder blade, as we would commonly call it, and it exited the neck area, that same side of the body. He is considered critical. He has survived. He survived 3 hours of surgery and he's in the intensive care unit right now. He was taken off the ventilator earlier on this morning and he's now conscious. He's breathing on his own so in all his critical condition he is considered quite stable and more than likely will survive this other attempt on his life."

And as Cuellar noted, last night's attempt on Fisher's life is the second in exactly 3 weeks. Police have made arrests for the first attempt on his life, but last night's attack is still under investigation. And while investigators don't know who shot him this time, one thing is clear, this young man has a remarkable will to live. This zeal, along with special support from the KHMH staff have kept him alive under tremendous adversity.

Dr. Fernando Cuellar,
"Its remarkable but we do need to say that here at Karl Heusner we are seeing more and more of these types of injuries and the team starting from emergency room have become quite skilled in resuscitating. I particularly was in the emergency room when he arrived and big credit to the staff, fellow physicians and nurse, that quickly resuscitated him and he was taken to the operating room within a matter of minutes, and of course the skilled surgeons that we have managed to do much good work. So yes fortunate but it did have a whole lot of input from the medical people."

A display of competence that comes at the terrible cost of young lives wasted in the street.

While police have not yet arrested anyone for this latest attempt on Fisher's life, last night they recovered 7 expended 9-millimeter shells from the scene

as well as a red cap. The prior attempt on his life occurred on the morning of February 3rd when he was shot in the chest. Police detained two men Sheldon 'Pinky' Tillet and Leonard Meyers for that shooting.
