New tax measures are set to go into effect on Tuesday March 1st and tonight the unions and government seem to be within reach of finding a workable compromise, even if they aren't quite there yet. Meetings at the Central Bank finished around 6:00 this evening and reports to our newsroom are that both sides have agreed tentatively on a package of revenue measures. This package now has to go back to Government on one side and the Trade Union Congress on the other. If it is approved by both, pending small modifications, they may be able to have an agreement before implementation day on Tuesday March 1st.
