It's a little used charge, but a man today pleaded guilty to being cruel to a dog after a ruthless case of doggy-cide.
27-year-old Anthony Coleman was arraigned before Magistrate Dorothy Flowers for the charge of cruelty to animal. The charge arose when Kevin Williams reported to police that a man had killed his dog in the Mahogany Street area of Belize City. When police responded they found the dead dog by the name of rex lying in some bushes. It had been chopped to death. Police then fully processed the scene like they would any other collecting everything but paw prints after which Williams requested court action on the killer, identified as Anthony Coleman.
For his part, Coleman says he was in the area attempting to pick coconuts when the dog, a pit bull attacked him. In court Coleman pleaded guilty to the charge of cruelty to animal and was fined $1000 to be paid by June 15th of this year in default 6 months in prison.
