After nearly a year on remand in jail, the three men and one woman accused of murdering 25 year old Nadir Husman were scheduled to go on trial in the Supreme Court yesterday. But instead of facing a jury, all 4 faced a judge who set them free after the DPP's office made a no case submission.
The accused were Gerald Tillet, Kent Skeet, Glen Keon Williams, and Madina Martinez. All four were charged jointly in July of last year with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Husman was found murdered at the salt creek shooting range on Sunday June 20th, 2004. He was shot as many as 7 times. To fast track the investigation, his family offered a $6,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Husman's murder. Shortly after there was an arrest but his mother Yvonne Moore told us today that one of the criteria for the reward money was the prosecution of her son's killer. She says no money has been paid out since there hasn't been any prosecution. Moore says that while she is "stifling her emotions," she knows a ghost didn't pull the trigger and is determined to see justice through.
Information reaching 7NEWS is that the DPP's office withdrew the charges in order to conduct further investigations. This new investigation into the year old murder may round up new suspects but these four, enjoying their newfound freedom, can still be re-arrested because they were released before a jury was empanelled. It is noteworthy that a preliminary inquiry at the Magistrate's Court level held in February of this year found that there was sufficient evidence to go to trial with against the four accused.
