The Opposition United Democratic Party's Central Executive Committee has decided that they won't boycott the House of Representatives...at least not yet. The party will instead implement "a four step plan of action."
They took step one today when Leader Dean Barrow fired off a letter to House Speaker Elizabeth Zabenah demanding she admits she was wrong to adjourn the House while Mesopotamia Area Rep. Michael Finnegan was talking. Barrow told Zabenah that she was "outrageously wrong to punish the Opposition for refusing to hand over documents belonging personally to the member for Mesopotamia." He adds that there is no confidence in the impartiality of the Speaker and to restore that confidence Zabenah needs to "give an undertaking that a premature and unfair termination of a sitting and the stifling of the Opposition's right to speak will never be repeated." Barrow ends by extending for an invitation for the speaker and the Prime Minister to sit down with him and discuss the issue.
If the Speaker doesn't apologize, well the UDP says it will take the other steps in its plan of action which they haven't released just yet to "preserve the element of surprise."
