One man was shot in an armed bank robbery today in Dangriga.
At about 2:15, a daring duo of men dressed in green military type outfits and brandishing pistols stormed into the Scotia Bank which is on the main street in Dangriga. One man who was in the bank, a Courts employee was shot in his arm, and is being treated at the Belmopan Hospital. He was one of the only customers in the bank and the gunmen demanded money from the tellers.
At this point, police are not saying how much they got, if any at all, but they left with guns blazing. The men reportedly fired unto Oak Street, which is behind the bank, as they dashed out through the back door. They got into a green Ford Escort that was waiting and sped away down the side of North Stann Creek River.
When police responded, there was some confusion about which way the bank robbers had gone and they escaped without any problem. Checkpoints were activated, but at news time no arrests had been made.
