10 days after two armed robbers strode into Belize's largest hotel, the Princess, and made off with $65,000, police have finally made an arrest. Today 25-year-old tour guide Jack Egbert Vernon was arraigned in Magistrate's Court on a single charge of robbery.
Police believe Vernon drove the getaway car, a brown Nissan sedan, which was parked at the BTL Park next to the Princess. This morning Vernon attempted to plead not guilty but Magistrate Sharon Frazer rejected his plea and instead remanded him to the Hattieville Prison until August 10th.
The robbery occurred at around 9 last Monday morning when two men walked into accounting office where staff members were counting money. They instructed the employees to hand over the money and the robbers made off with $65,000 which was the entire weekend proceeds from the hotel, the movie cinema, their nightclub Charisma, and the bowling alley.
