On Friday, UDP Collet Area Rep. Patrick Faber was convicted of using indecent words and for that crime the honorable member will have to pay $100 fine.
The charges date back to November of 2003 at a championship football game in Belmopan. At the time police alleged that Faber attempted to enter the stadium with a bottle of liquor. That is prohibited and cops claim that when they tried to stop him, Faber allegedly assaulted and cursed out the officer.
Faber was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and using indecent words. The aggravated assault charges apparently didn't stick and Faber appeared in Belmopan Magistrate's Court alongside his attorney B.Q. Pitts to answer the indecent words count.
Faber's defense at the time was that he simply standing up for his rights and he adds that he wasn't in fact arrested until he arrived at the checkpoint at the entrance of Belize City. He also adds that his brother was the one who attempted to enter with the alleged bottle of liquor.
Presiding Magistrate Albert Hoare convicted Faber of the indecent words and fined him $100 and $5 cost.
Faber is still facing charges of assault on a police officer for his now infamous face-off with the riot squad on the campus of the University of Belize in April of this year. That case will go to court next week Tuesday.
