A woman visited our studios this evening to complain that police almost killed her brother this afternoon. Verna Lamb says that police officers went looking for her brother Vancy Lamb while investigating a burglary report. She complains however that as her brother was responding to the police, the officers simply began to shoot at him.

"This afternoon CIB Usher went to look for my brother and my brother was working. He called my brother and my brother came to him but my brother told me he saw Usher push his hand into his pocket and the same time he saw it was a gun, he was letting go his shots. My brother had to throw himself in the mud so that the bullet wouldn't catch him. So he ran from Usher and Usher continued shooting after my brother. All I want to tell Usher is that he (my brother) is not a bird, he is a human being and I only have one brother and I wouldn't want nobody to destroy him. That is why I made it my business to go and see what is the problem at the station and I asked for assistance from two CIB (officers) and they were kind enough to carry me to bring in my brother. Now he is at the station so I don't want them to (take) advantage of him like that next time.
I just buried my brother Monday, I just buried my brother. I just have two brothers and I just buried one on Monday and it still hurts me for somebody, a police officer, to come and do that. If he wanted assistance from us, he could have come to my mother or one of my sisters to assist him, just like what I did today; I went and picked him and I took him to the station. He is at the station. They don't have to fire shots after him, I don't know if they have something against my brother."
Police have since detained Vancy pending investigations of a burglary.
