Hurricane Katrina is one of the worst disasters in U.S. history and estimates are that possibly as many as four thousand Belizeans were residing in the storm affected area.

For those Belizeans who have family in those areas, it's been a nightmare trying to find them or determine their status because cellular and telephone services have gone down. With the looming health and security crises in those areas in it's a deeply troubling situation, and there's not much families can do but wait and pray for the best.

To try and offer some relief, the Belizean Embassy in Washington has set up a message board on its website. It allows you to post queries for persons you are trying to reach or encourages those in the affected areas to make postings telling what their status is. You can find the message board at embassyofbelize.org.
