A 14-year-old girl yesterday went to Belize City police to report that she had been having sexual relations with a police constable. The child, who lives in Hattieville, reported that on the 29th of October she and another 14-year-old female friend were walking in the village when two police officers attached to the traffic branch pulled up beside them in a patrol car. They exchanged phone numbers and in the first week of November the teenager visited the constable's home where they had sex twice.
So far, police have not arrested the constable and are awaiting the result of a medical examination. The story was brought to the police and to our attention by a woman who is no relation to the child but saw her lingering around the constable's apartment. She told us that when she questioned the girl, it turned out that she was wearing the constable's shirt and said she was just visiting him. The woman took the young lady to police where a social officer accompanied her in making the report.
