Last week Ombudsman Paul Rodriguez told us that (See Ombudsman on Inquiries) he basically has no confidence that anything substantial will come of either the Senate investigation into Social Security or the DFC's investigation. Well, one of those investigating bodies, the Senate Special Select Committee which is in charge of the Social Security probe today issued a statement which calls the Ombudsman's comments untimely and prejudicial to the work of the committee and to our system of justice. It continues by saying that at no time has the committee met with or held any discussions with the ombudsman in relation to its work. It ends by calling on citizens to respect the process and await a report which will be delivered when the committee has completed its mandate.
