$300 - that's what sparked a domestic argument that left a woman without three fingers. We first told you about the story on Friday. Julia Amaya and her common-law husband got into an argument in their Kelly Street home on Thursday night, he ended up pulling his machete and chopping Julia in the head. Three of her fingers were severed as she tried to shield herself from the blows. Amaya told us that they were arguing over proceeds from a stereo she sold for three hundred dollars. The argument escalated and around 9:30 on Thursday night it exploded. With her fingers gone, Amaya now worries how she'll continue to sell tacos and earn a living.

Julia Amaya, Domestic Abuse Victim
[Translation] "When he arrived midday to have lunch he told me that he was leaving the house because I don't want to be with him so I tell him to leave. I also told him that was going to sell my stereo and I was going to give him three hundred dollars so that he can leave and we don't have problems. He said okay. After I gave him the three hundred dollars he said, 'okay, I will have something prepared for you tonight.'

He then took a bath, got dressed, and went out. He came back at 7:30 pm and told me that in a pool of blood they'll find me. He knocked down my door and I called the police and the police never arrived. My daughter then told me that he was sitting down on the sofa and a machete was underneath the sofa. I said, 'oh my god, this man will kill me.' I then ran towards the machete, pulled it out, and ran outside with it to throw it away. He ran behind me, kicked me down, took away the machete from me and then he chopped me. If I hadn't done that, maybe if I hadn't done that, he would have taken out the machete and killed both me and her daughter because he doesn't want my daughter. I saw when he held the machete and I put both hands on my hand and that is when he chopped my fingers on both hands and my head got chopped and I also got a chop wound under my right arm."

Keith Swift,
Will be you be able to continue selling tacos?

Julia Amaya,
I don't know how I will do that. We've had problems a long time a go. Police use to put him out of the house but he wouldn't leave."

Amaya has been released from the hospital and her Honduran boyfriend Nephatli Avila is still on the run. Amaya has two children, aged 5 and 10, none of them are for Avilez, the older girl witnessed the chopping.
