Earlier on we told you that the Novelo's receivership has collapsed and while that is the central concern for commuters and authorities tonight, for bus drivers who were fired by the receivership on earlier this month, after they went on strike, their concern is more immediate. Today the drivers visited our studios complaining that since they have been terminated they have not been able to collect any benefits due to them and in fact they claim Social Security Payments were not being made during the receivership's tenure.
Bus Driver #1,
"The receivership ahs refused to pay us our benefits. At this time they've only paid vacation pay and for those of us who had a little short pay, they did pay some of that but we are here because we have found out also that not only have they refused to pay us all our benefits but they have also refused to pay in our social security benefits that they have collected from us through the years. When we checked with the Social Security Department, we found out that they have only paid in seventeen contributions for me which I think is totally mismanagement, this is what we call gross mismanagement by these people because I know for sure every two weeks I have been paying Social Security $19+ so we would like the people at Social Security to check with these people because we believe that they have inspectors who should have been catching up with these things. We are fairly healthy people and we are looking forward to Social Security but what will happen to us on a longer term when we come to, in a case like a man like me, I should be approaching retirement very soon and only to find out that my contributions have not been paid in will really hurt me."
The drivers say that Social Security has promised to look into the matter.
