He didn't show up to court for his trial today, but a mechanic was still sentenced to 5 years in prison after he chanced a female client. Ethel Arnold, who owned a four door Mazda told the court that in February of this year, her friend Rudolph Gladden hired a mechanic to fix her car. Gladden gave 41-year-old Herbert "Ninjaman" Wiltshire the job, and Wiltshire dutifully went to pick up the car and took it to his shop on Cran Street.
Two weeks later when Arnold went to check on the repairs she found that Wiltshire hadn't fixed her car at all! Instead, he'd stripped it and sold it for parts! The missing parts included all four wheels, the battery, the radiator, the cooling fan, the speakers, the distributor cap, the handles for the doors, and the horn on the steering wheel, valued at a total of $7,815.
Almost two months after the complaint, Wiltshire was arraigned on theft charges on April eighth. But he appears to have absconded on bail of $2,500 and when he did not appear in court yesterday, the Magistrate proceeded with an ex-parte trial and he was sentenced to 5 years in absentia.
